JAF – Two Guys. Together since 2011.
Today's fashion ain't necessarily still hot tomorrow. Even when we're talking about what's underneath your outfit, there's a hot and a not. Meet a hundred years of men's underwear fashion! I just love YouTube channel Mode with their videos on fashion trends history. I guess everyone still remembers the first video they had on the history of women's fashion. When men's underwear popped up, I just had to have a small peek. :-) Funny to see how even what we wear dessous changes so rapidly. I too remember wearing boxers a few years ago. And I also remember that it was super unpractical. Getting the complete boxers in your jeans without the fabric being stuffed together. Memories... Thank god strings always were something 100% banned. (If you're reading this wearing a string: go change right now before someone notices. It's not too late yet.) Nowadays we're big fans of Australian brand Assiebum with their slogan 'If you doubt yourself, wear something else'. Now that's a statement. So how about you? Having a favorite can't-go-out-without underwear brand or is whatever that covers the junk good enough?
It's a fact: Scotch & Soda made its debut on New York Fashion Week to reveal the Fall Winter 2016 collection. How they did it? With a big bang! It's no secret that we're big Scotch & Soda fans. From its more decadent styles, to its great denim washes and basics with cool details - we mostly prefer to have everything the Amsterdam based brand has to offer centralized in one place: our wardrobe. On Valentines Day Scotch & Soda revealed its Fall Winter 2016 collection. And they did so for the first time on the New York Fashion Week. If that's not exciting enough, they chose to do it in a more creative way than using the regular catwalk. The brand went for a spectacular show with intergalactic mood projections, models and live musicians up on the wall in shopping windows and most important: great merchandise. Be sure to watch the full show and put some Scotch & Soda must-haves on your wishlist for the upcoming Fall Winter season. I already know which cardigan will most definitely be mine...
For the very first dairy-free dinner party at our place, we put together a jummy codfish with a creamy zucchini white whine sauce and pine nut rice as the main course. And of course we'll give you all the tips and tricks to able you to put it together yourself. Enjoy! Here's what you need for two (times four in our case since we had six guests): - 2 fresh codfish filets (around 180g each) - 1 slice of dried crumbled bread - 50g parmesan cheese (make sure it has below 0,1g carbs) For the sauce: - 1 zucchini - 200g dairy-free cream - 100ml white wine - a pinch of salt - black pepper For the pine nut rice: - 1 cup of rice at your choice - a handful of pine nuts How to? Pre-heat your oven at 180 degrees. Cut the zucchini in small cubes and place them in an oven plate. Mix the dairy-free cream with the white wine and spice it at your personal taste with salt and pepper. Poor the mixture over the zucchini cubes till they are covered. Lay the codfish filets on top of the sauce. Next, mix the breadcrumbs with parmesan cheese. This should form a sticky consistency. Now spread out over the fish filets and put the plate in the oven for fifteen to twenty minutes. Meanwhile you have enough time to cook the rice and roast the pine nuts in a pan. Just before the rice is ready, add the pine nuts to it so the rice can absorb the delicious aroma. Bing! Did you hear that? Your dairy-free fish dish is ready to be served! Guten Appetit!
More and more people lately discover they have a food allergy. Does that mean you can't enjoy the pleasures of delicious dining anymore? Oh, hell no! Mid last year I've gone in a state of constant tiredness, pretty much always being nauseous, having headaches, even crawling on the floor from incredible stomach pains and ending up in the hospital. Turned out I have a lactose intolerance, an allergy for milk products. Which nowadays seems to be quite common, though still quite an obstacle for cooking and going on a restaurant. My god, milk is in everything: E-VE-RY-THING. Good thing we have really great friends that are open for some creativity in the kitchen. We decided that every one or two months we'll come together for a dinner that makes nobody feel bad. Also, it's the perfect occasion to drink wine together. Because: what's a dinner party without? :-) Meet: The perfect dairy-free dinner party. The party kicked-off at our place. What the hell should we cook for eight people? Well, we actually really quickly found some inspiring recipes in books and the WWW. Here's what made it to the very first dairy-free diner party menu (click on it to get to the recipe): Starter: Cucumber lasagne with a paprika cashew paste and avocado filling Main course: Codfish with creamy zucchini white wine sauce and pine nut rice Dessert: Sorbet ice in a bath of champagne with a hint of mint Nobody went home hungry, nor thirsty and the whole night was dairy-free. Just the way we like it. Enjoy!
Since Jeroen found out he has a pretty nasty lactose intolerance (he's allergic to milk products) we started to become experts in cooking dairy-free. For one of our dairy-free dinner parties we made this delicious starter that we discovered in the 'Vegan for Youth'-book from Attila Hildmann. Here's all you need to put it on a plate yourself: Cucumber lasagne with a paprika cashew paste with avocado filling What you need for two as a main course (times two in our case as a starter for eight): - 1/2 cucumber - 1 tablespoon walnut oil - a pinch of seasalt For the paprika cashew paste: - 100g red paprika - 1/4 chili pepper - 180g unsalted cashews - a pinch of kurkuma - seasalt - black pepper For the avocado filling: - 2 avocados - 1 tablespoon of chopped dill - 1/2 tablespoon lemon juice - 1 tablespoon walnut oil - seasalt - black pepper For decoration: - some dill - roasted pine nuts How to? Wash the cucumber and cut in thin slices (around 2mm thick). Put walnut oil and seasalt on it. Wash the paprika and chili. Remove pits. Next, put all ingredients for the paprika cashew paste in a blender. Mix till you get a creamy paste and spice it up with salt and pepper. Slice the avocados in half. Remove pit and cut the avocado in small cubes. Add the other ingredients for the filling and add salt and pepper. Now start building your little lasagne tower! Place cucumber slices on the plate, cover it with some of the paprika cashew paste, put cucumber slices on top and cover that again with some of the avocado filling, ... you know the drill. At the end: decorate with a bit of dill and roasted pine nuts (we like to put a LOT of them on top). Finish! Bon appétit!
With hot summer temperatures hitting us, it's awesome having a dip in a refreshing pool. The Royal Flush in Texas makes your refreshment quite spectacular. Meet the craziest water slide ever! The in April launched water slide in the BSR Cable Park in Texas can be a dream come true or for some a real nightmare. With its steep slide down, get ready to be completely catapulted in the sky and to hit the water after one, two, three, four,... flips. After surviving the Reebok Spartan Race we're most definately in for a ride. But are you up for it as well? Check it out! Swimsuit packed? Let's go!
If you put us in front of a sporty challenge, chances are high we won't say no. So when a few friends invited us to join their sprint team for the Reebok Spartan Race, we were all aboard! March this year, I received a text message with "You guys should join our team for the Reebok Spartan Race. It will be cool. You have to sign-up today!". Little did we know what we were getting into but we quickly signed up, assuming it's some kind of marathon. Not. A few weeks later we discovered the true nature of the Reebok Spartan Race, an obstacle race. Let's show you... Yeah. We were a bit excited as well after seeing that a few days before taking part of the race. It's probably no surprise when we say we were slightly nervous at the starting point. But hey, together with our great team we took on all the obstacles, ran our ass off and all covered in mud did we get to that burning finish line. Our team Les Spartans even finished as the fastest - and let's just say BEST - sprint team of the day with a time of 01:16:29. Let's do that again!
The world is changing, making us having to live more conscience. After G-Star with RAW for the Oceans, Adidas now also found a cool way to make this happen and created an amazing plastic shoe with Parley for the Oceans. Adidas celebrates its recently announced partnership with Parley for the Oceans in the unique surroundings of the United Nations headquarters and showcased an innovative footwear concept born from this collaboration. Parley for the Oceans is an organisation in which creators, thinkers and leaders come together to raise awareness about the state of the oceans and to collaborate on projects that can protect and conserve them. As founding member, adidas supports Parley for the Oceans in its education and communication efforts, and its comprehensive Ocean Plastic Program that intends to end plastic pollution of the oceans. The UNxParley event included an intimate press gathering where adidas Group Executive Board member responsible for Global Brands Eric Liedtke and Parley for the Oceans founder Cyrill Gutsch talked about the partnership and showcased a unique prototype product. adidas created a world first with a shoe upper made entirely of yarns and filaments reclaimed and recycled from ocean waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets. Parley partner organisation Sea Shepherd retrieved the nets after a 110-day expedition tracking an illegal poaching vessel, which culminated off the coast of West Africa. The concept shoe illustrates the direction adidas and Parley for the Oceans are taking, ahead of consumer-ready ocean plastic products being revealed later this year. "At Parley for the Oceans, we want to establish the oceans as a fundamental part of the debate around climate change. Our objective is to boost public awareness and to inspire new collaborations that can contribute to protect and preserve the oceans." said Cyrill Gutsch. "We are extremely proud that adidas is joining us in this mission and is putting its creative force behind this partnership to show that it is possible to turn ocean plastic into something cool". Eric Liedtke, who is also a passionate member of the Parley for the Oceans Steering Committee, said: "We are incredibly excited to join Parley for the Oceans as they bring the cause of the oceans to the attention of the United Nations. adidas has long been a leader in sustainability, but this partnership allows us to tap into new areas and create innovative materials and products for our athletes. We invite everyone to join us on this journey to clean up the oceans."
500 meets Crossover. The Fiat 500X. On the Paris Motor Show Fiat presented the next '500' family member. The Fiat 500 gets an X resulting in a compact crossover that marks the evolution of the brand and technology through the development in its DNA. It is bigger, more powerful and ready for action Since we are already fans of the MINI Countryman driving it from time to time with DriveNow, there is now the italian answer to the compact city crossover. And we do like it a lot. A car with character, the new crossover explores a brand-new dimension of being 500, where a mature, elegant, all-Italian style "clothes" - like haute couture - the substance of a car that is comfortable, high-performance and always in touch with the world: that's the X side of beauty, and that's the soul of the Fiat 500X. Fiat has created an exclusive, top of the range, limited edition of the model - the Fiat 500X "Opening Edition" - to guarantee the first 2000 lucky customers the chance to drive the exciting new crossover from the 500 family. Two exteriors - like the two souls of the new 500X: one more "urban" in Art Grey, the other in tri-coat red, perfect for recreational use. To find out more about the exclusive Fiat 500X "Opening Edition", users can visit www.500X.fiat500.com to discover what makes the new Fiat crossover truly one of a kind, using a navigation system which allows you to explore the car from any angle. On the website you can also reserve your limited edition Fiat 500X through your trusted dealership and be one of the first 2000 to drive one. The new Fiat 500X is set to arrive in dealerships from early 2015, and like any cult item, initially it may be tricky to meet demand. We are now already waiting for a first test drive. JafJaf!
DriveNow let's you shop until you drop at the Designer Outlet! As you already know, we're big fans of DriveNow. Recently, the car sharing agency launched an interesting collaboration with the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Roermond, the Netherlands. How does it work? Easy! Just hop in a DriveNow MINI or BMW at choice and book the partner offer via the DriveNow menu in the car. Depending on how many people you are, the costs vary from 50€ for one person up to 65€ for four people. Next to that, every person receives a 15€ voucher at the information desk when arrived in the Outlet Center. That voucher can, by the way, be spent in every store in the center and comes without a minimum to be spend. So... you actually pay 5 € for the six hour rent, including 140 free kilometers when you go on a shopping tour with a group of four. There's definitely not a cheaper and more comfortable way to get to your designer destination. We certainly liked the offer and tried it ourselves last Sunday afternoon. We booked a MINI Countryman in Dusseldorf, started off with a sporty Sunday BodyJam work-out at the gym and continued our trip further to Roermond. Arrived at the Designer Outlet, we picked up our voucher cards and were ready to attack! From all major sports brands like adidas, Nike, Puma and Reebok, to labels like Boss, Strellson, Diesel, Ralph Lauren, Denham. You name it, you'll find it. Next to that, the center has loads of places to have a coffee or eat something when you just feel like having a little break. Our catch of the Sunday? A pair of cool adidas sneakers for F and a Reebok cross-fit training pants for J. All in the trunk and back to Dusseldorf! For more details about booking your own DriveNow shopping spree, go and check out the DriveNow-Blog. JafJaf!
Pharrell Williams x Adidas Originals first phase available now. Pharrell Williams has become one of the major American music producer to launch a design range this week with trainers and sportswear for Adidas. Now, Adidas has unveiled the first two pieces from its collaboration with musician and producer Pharrell Williams, which launched in shops on Saturday, 20th. Three more product releases will follow in October, November and December. The total collection will consist of a series of limited edition pieces with the draw on items from the sportswear brand's collection of classic designs. The first two are a version of Adidas' Superstar track jacket in leather and the brand's classic Stan Smith shoes, which will come in three colors: blue, red and black. "The equal sign is the leitmotif of the collaboration's logo," said Adidas in an official statement about the logo for the collaboration. "Next to the Adidas Originals trefoil, two of the iconic three stripes transform into a bold equal sign with the third being the name of Pharrell Williams," the brand explained further. Adidas also said that the products in the collaboration would "revolve around Pharrell's idea of equality," but did not explain how this had been applied to the jacket and trainers. Release Date: Available Now! - Store: www.adidas.com/pharrellwilliams Adidas first announced its collaboration with Pharell at the beginning of this year, but is not the only brand to be working with the producer. In July, Pharrell unveiled a collection of clothing for G-Star RAW with fabrics made from materials, created using waste plastic collected from the sea. At the moment it seems that everything the great producer/singer touches is meant to be very succesful. From his Oscar-winning 'Happy' song which turned into an anthem earlier this year, to multiple magazine covers. For sure one of the men of 2014. Stay tuned for more. JafJaf!
J's 25th life year brings a new premium friend along: a lovely Drykorn suit. Ah, birthdays. The time to gather all your beloved friends and family to talk about the past year, have a drink, a dance, a bite, a selfie with everyone. The perfect moment to have a good time all together. You have to just love it. Next to that, birthdays are also the time of presents... With my 25th birthday last week, I received quite some gift cards and shopping money. Logically it didn't take me too long to go out and spend it. And if I may say: it's been spent wisely. Already for a long period I've been in need of a second complete suit. Most of the time you can easily combine a good qualitative jeans with a nice blazer for a casual office look, but sometimes you'd just like it to be a little more dressed. So, with freshly received cash money in the hand, F and I went to look for a new full costume at Drykorn (yes, Made For Beautiful People). After trying on quite some cool stuff, we decided to go for this dark blue suit with a cool pattern all over the blazer and pants that clearly makes it stand out. By the way: it not only looks good, it also feels soft. Prrrrr. So, fashion police, what are your thoughts? Can I walk into your office? JafJaf!
Ready for cruising through next Summer in style? Have a look at the electric MINI Superleggera Vision concept! As announced earlier in Spring this year, this exclusive interpretation of an electric open-top two-seater was created by MINI and Touring Superleggera, the stylish couch builder from Milan. The MINI Superleggera Vision is on the one hand a classic roadster, a compact and agile two-seater, expressing the most minimalist and emotional style of motoring; and on the other hand its electric drivetrain gives the car distinctly modern driving dynamics. The perfectly balanced proportions indicate at first glance what the electrically powered MINI has to offer in terms of a driving experience: the stretched bonnet, long wheelbase and cool, short overhangs convey pure driving fun. As in every MINI, the wheels are set widely on the body, promising a high degree of agility. The passenger cell is slightly set back, further underscoring the car's dynamic impression. The result is a car of classic beauty that is also state of the art. And we sure like it... a lot! This all is still in a concept phase, but as reactions are mainly very positive, BMW announced production could be something of the near future. Fingers crossed! Can you already imagine yourself taking this baby for a spin? JafJaf!
Don't you just love a guy in suit & tie? The new Suitsupply Autumn/Winter 2014 campaign doesn't disappoint! The days that dressing up for the office is boring are long gone. Men want to look good at work and they should! You too have to admit: a sharply dressed man does make you want to listen to what he has to say, no? ;-) The new Suitsupply collection with its matching advertising campaign most definitely has a similar effect on us. Perfectly styled men against a backdrop of military-, arts- and sporting teams. It sure brings us in a happy, ready-to-listen-or-just-stare-at-the-man-mood. “We’ve taken cues from the rebels, loners and outcasts of style & history to create a collection that’s distinctive and nonconformist.” says CEO & founder Fokke de Jong. Fall and Winter can again count on impeccable tailoring, exquisite craftsmanship, luxurious fabrics and a wide color palette. Suitsupply is as usually able to maintain time-honored quality. Now, are you dressing up for the office tomorrow? We most certainly will. Take a look at the stylish campaign. Pre-ordering of the new collection is possible on the Suitsupply online shop. JafJaf!
Our little boy's dream becomes reality with the Star Wars house, designed by MOON HOON Architects. Korean architecture firm MOON HOON has developed the one and only ‘Star Wars house’ for a family in Yongin-si. The fantasy home, existing out of three floors pays a visual homage to Star Wars while also acknowledging the client’s childhood dream of being an astronaut. The home features an angled concrete facade, relieved with thin stripes and boxy windows. The interior is very bright and skeletal, making use of natural light and woods to create a spacious effect for the inhabitants. Enjoy a sneaky look inside and, yes, may the force be with you! Karl Lagerfeld wears BEATS X CHANEL headphones during Paris Fashion Week. There has been much said and written about it, but the BEATS X CHANEL headphones are coming anyway! During the Paris Fashion Week they were seen on the catwalk and will now join the exclusive circle of Chanel gadgets. The headset will shortly be available for a small amount of € 5,000 Euro across Chanel stores worldwide. The headphones are designed with a strong Chanel aesthetic. The signature quilted leather upper, the Chanel logo on the earpieces and of course a matching Chanel pouch. In the past, Monster has collaborated with Hublot and Crystal Roc to create some unique headsets and the collaboration with Chanel cements their status as an industry forerunner. With Swizz Beatz and Karl Largerfeld himself seen flaunting the Chanel headphones, it was only a matter of time until they would be released. See the photos of the BEATS X CHANEL luxury headphone that might be the right company for you here. JafJaf!
September might be too early to decide what's the best song of the year. Nevertheless, Sia with 'Chandelier' does have a great shot at winning that title. Months after 'Chandelier' has been released we're still singing it out & proud while cruising on the German roads. And most of the time, we're even tempted to replay the song two to three times. Which you normally only do with songs from Britney S. and Christina A, right? It gets better... The singer from down-under recorded a new version of 'Chandelier' which will be released on iTunes next week. The new version strips down the whole track, leaving it up to her incredible voice and a piano. We're not sure which version we like the most if we're honest. When listening to the intimate piano version, we want to have the radio edit to listen to as the next track, with again the piano version as the one after. Which makes our singing routine of course quite confusing. Anyway, you can believe us that it's quite amazing. Or don't believe us and just listen. JafJaf!
After the breaking Alexander Wang H&M news earlier this year, the Swedish retailer now releases the first images. The collaboration with the incredibly famous designer stays true to Wang’s fashion forward sportswear aesthetic. Expect a dark selection of athletic-inspired gear with a rough focus on boxing. Say hello to neoprene, tech jersey, leather blocking and toned-down colors. Not so toned-down though are the large WANG-prints on eyewear, sweatshirts and shorts. These should give the collection a kind of underground street wear sensibility but are sometimes a bit too much for us. Maybe JAF would be a suggestion from our side. We do look forward to wearing the incredibly cool gray puffer jacket from the Alexander Wang H&M collection, hitting stores in November. JafJaf!
When it comes to a modern classy style in men's fashion, Boss Orange is one of the labels that really meets most of our expectations. Next to Boss Black, Hugo by Hugo Boss and Boss Green, the 'Orange' Autumn/Winter 2014 styles breathe a certain 'whatever' while still looking like you're straight from the catwalk. A kind of out-of-bed-look that comes with a au-natural but looks hot as hell. The brand mixed and matched shiny and matte textiles to create a more mysterious look & feel and we sure like it. Hugo Boss presented its fall/winter 2014 campaign fronted by British model Harvey Newton. Giving the collection a rock ‘n roll flair, Harvey brings a new spirit to Boss’ leather outerwear, fitted knitwear and smart separates. Our favorite: the oh-so-beatiful leather jacket! JafJaf!
If you want to be really decadent, you should definitely give Monaco a try. Next year a super rich multi-millionaire will find its home in the most expensive penthouse of the world. The luxurious five-floor flat, on top of Tour Odéon - a 171m high new skyscraper in Monaco- will get sold for around a small € 302 million and will be the most expensive penthouse of the world. Included in the price tag is the magnificent view over the Mediterranean, an infinity pool with its own slide, a health centre and an in-house caterer. Tour Odéon itself, with its 70 super-sized flats, is the first new skyscraper to be build in Monaco since the '80s. It will be the Mediterranean coastline's second tallest building when completed next year, offering its not-so-shabby residents a 24/7 concierge service and a private chauffeur. The penthouse on top will just have that little extra, set to stand out even in the midst of such extreme luxury. Care to join us for a look inside? "C'est beau la petite bourgeoisie qui boit du champagne." JafJaf!

The Yerka project brings bicycle theft to an end - hopefully. Normally a bike is an easy target for thieves. We all know that. Esspecially in bigger cities you better watch out where to leave your bike. It doesn't matter how thick your padlock is or how frequently visited the place is where you leave your bike behind. Thieves always seem to find a way to get away with it. Three chilean engineering students have been victims of exactly the same. They teamed up and created the Yerka Project. A bicycle that once it is properly locked up, can only be stolen by destroying it. The locking mechanism is integrated in the bike's frame. You will open the frame and use the bike's saddle to lock it which will take around 20 seconds of your time. Next to this great idea the creators maintained the urban city look of the bike. The developed prototype is a mixture of speed- and mountainbike with colourful details and generates a desire for more. JafJaf!

Always in for a little adventure? Same here! How about spending the night in a robust drain pipe? We can surely recommend it as a cool experience. Dasparkhotel Bernepark, located in Bottrop (near to Essen and a small 30 minutes drive from Düsseldorf), is quite something. Actually, we already spotted the hotel last year but were sadly not able to get there. Now was the time! The hotel exists out of five drain pipes (aka five suites), each suitable for two people to spend the night. Pure simplicity from the outside and surprisingly comfortable from the inside. You actually have full headroom, storage space underneath the bed, a wide eurofoam mattress and electricity to charge your laptop, mobile phone and camera. What more do you need? We enjoyed the experience a lot. And you know what? You decide your own price! Because Dasparkhotel uses regular hotel facilities from surrounding public infrastructure, they work with the 'Pay as you wish' formula. Just give what you think it was worth and leave it in an envelope in your suite when you leave. Did we get you curious? Ofcourse we did! The hotel is opened from May till October but due to the popularity, there's a limit in still available dates. Bookings via dasparkhotel.net. JafJaf!

Here's J. A few weeks ago, Mission 20-FIT started with the goal to get in top shape for my 25th birthday. With the right music for running via Fitradio and motivation to hit the gym with Bodyjam, a lot of progress has already been made. Let's take it to the next level! Okay, the first three weeks were a good way to get warmed-up by saying no to sweets, crisps, alcohol and... bread. Gently onwards I started going back to the gym to do cardio and my running shoes also saw daylight again. It's great to have a goal (mine: to be in my best shape on September 21st) but you have to stay realistic and build-up wisely. Last week, I decided to take the next step, based on the cool Six-pack program of the German Men's Health magazine. Six of their employees took on the challenge to train eight weeks long to get their six-pack pumped. Really motivating to see how they managed. And so I started this week by also doing cardio every day, every damn day. But you know what? It's not that bad, on the contrary. For me the trick is to plan a routine in the mornings by preparing my sports outfit in the evening and putting my alarm half an hour earlier. It's just a matter of getting up, get dressed, drink a cup of coffee and wake-up while doing a half an hour morning run. Trust me: you feel way more active during the day. By doing so, I managed to get faster every day without it taking me to my ultimate limit. On July 28th, it took me for example 30:42 for 6,22km. That's an average of 4min 56sec per kilometer. Compare that to my run of August 15th where I had an average of 4min 16sec for basically the same distance. That's 40 seconds per kilometer faster in just three weeks time. What I'm going to add to my running, cardio at the gym and healthy eating/drinking is the one thing I don't like so much: strength training. Wish me good luck! JafJaf!
In 2013 designer Isabel Marant created a complete new fashion driven H&M fall/winter collection for men. The new H&M Fall/Winter 2014 Collection is following up this trend towards a "high fashion" appeal with their new Studio collection for men (and women). Today, in 2014, the new collection includes a motorcycle jacket and leather biker pants going along with very grungy silhouettes in combination with a toned down color palette of whites, grey and black. Next to all those punk and rock-inspired items, there is a substential number of more classic, formal garments like clean wool coats, tailored trousers and shirts. Matching sneakers, boots, shoes, scarves, caps and beanies complete this promising and versatile collection. Release date for the refined looks is September 4th in selected stores and online. Let's hope that the collections quality will pay tribute to these great styles. We are very optimistic. Discover the complete video lookbook of the H&M Fall/Winter 2014 collection and the slideshow below. JafJaf!
One of the many things Germans are good at: delicious selfmade cake and pastries. Esspecially in the northern part the so called 'Franzbrötchen', comparable with swedish cinnamon rolls, are a yummy specialty. Back from Berlin we needed to try our very own receipe. YumYum. This is what you need for about 12 pieces: For the baking sheet: baking paper Yeast dough: 250 ml milk 70 g butter 500 g of wheat flour 1 pack. Dry Yeast 70 g sugar 2 tsp vanilla sugar 1 egg (size M) a touch of salt Filling: 100 g soft butter 100 g sugar 3 tsp. cinnamon To glaze: about 2 tablespoons of milk And here is your manual: 1.Preparing: Heat the milk in a small saucepan and melt the butter in it. 2. Yeast dough: Fill the flour and yeast in a mixing bowl. Then add all other ingredients including the warm milk-butter mixture and mix everything with a mixer (dough hook). Start shortly to mix on the lowest level, then process at the highest level in about 5 min until the dough is smooth. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until it has grown visibly. (around 30 min) 3. Preheat the oven. Top / bottom heat: about 180 ° C Hot air: about 160 ° C 4. Filling: Blend the butter, sugar and cinnamon with a mixer (stirring rods). Knead the dough on a lightly floured work surface and roll it out to a rectangle (about 70 x 25 cm). Afterwards spread out the cinanamon filling evenly and roll everything up from the longer side. Finally cut the role in about 12 equal trapeze-shaped cuts. Now place the cuts with the elongated side down on the baking sheet and press with a wooden spoon handle from the top to the narrow edge.. Let the rolls stay for another 10 min. 5. Sprinkle the buns with milk and then bake them. Oven inset: center Baking time: about 20 min. When finished, let the 'Franzbrötchen' cool down on a wire rack or serve them warm. Enjoy your freshly, selfmade 'Franzbrötchen'. JafJaf!
Woohooh! We're on Holiday! After our big move in February and starting a new job in March, it was time to take a little walk on the free side. That's why we decided to grab our Belgian friend, Joke, and to cruise towards the lovely Berlin. We start off with a classic one day city tour through Berlin. But instead of taking one of the tourist busses, we take the legendary bus line 100, starting from Bahnhof Zoo towards the Alexanderplatz. It stops at all the main attractions and if you get off, just minutes later the next one passes by. There even is a an app for ios that works as an audio guide for the full route. We anyway managed to check-out the Siegesäule, the Bundestag, the Kansleramt, Brandenburger Tor, the Jewish monument and the Fernsehturm at the Alexanderplatz. A great shot of culture if you ask us. J here. I've made a sporty decision that I might regret at first but most definitely will be very grateful for later... With my 25th birthday coming up in September, it's time to make some things happen. It's time to gain some volume around my arms, to shape-up and to get that six-pack that has nothing to do with German or Belgian beer. Not by starving myself out with diets, but by doing lots of (fun) sports and by keeping myself on a healthy food plan. Bye bye, lazy evenings, crisps, bread, alcohol,... Hello 20-fit? The next two months I will be reporting my progress and share my tips and tricks into making it happen. Lets hope I can make you guys proud of me. JafJaf!

Our only question to you guys: do you taste best with cheese or with marmelade? JafJaf!
Looking for a hotel that gives you thé most unforgettable experience? You've come to the right address. We've listed 14 hotels as a must-sleep-at checklist. JafJaf! Icehotel - Jukkasjärvi, Sweden Icehotel is the first and largest (5500m²) hotel build out of snow. The hotel gets rebuild every year around November - December, which takes around 100 people. Open for cool guests from December - mid-April. Whitepod Hotel - Swiss Alps, Switzerland It's like camping but instead of sleeping in a sleeping bag, you just received a 5 star accommodation. Whitepod is all about being ecologic and being one with nature but without giving up on luxury. Attrap Reves - Marseilles, France You, your lover and the starry sky. This place is perfect for romantic nights where you actually don't feel like closing your eyes. Your personal bubble offers the needed privacy but allows you to see everything that's happening in the sky. The Mirrorcube Treehotel - Harads, Sweden Remember building a treehouse in your childhood? This 4x4x4 hotel sure gives it a bit more arty touch. Covered with mirrored walls, it feels like you're completely hidden in nature. Hotel Not Hotel - Amsterdam, The Netherlands In this hotel in the centre of Amsterdam, every room has its own story with its own design. It's like living in a museum. Poseidon Undersea Resort - Fiji This 5 star accommodation exchanges the big blue sky for the deep blue ocean. Can you find Nemo? The Atomium - Brussels, Belgium Ever slept in a monument? Ngorongoro Crater Lodge - Ngorongoro, Tanzania This Lodge offers a small garden of approx. 8300 km². The Ngorongoro Crater often gets called 'Africa's Eden', we call it quite the view at least. The Oberoi - New Delhi, India And we'll never be royals? We do think so. Jade Mountain - Soufriere, St. Lucia This summer sanctuary is definitely one of the Caribbean’s most mesmerizing resort experiences. Relax: Internet access is available at the reception. :-) Nhow Hotel - Berlin, Germany If you're staying in a capital city as cool as Berlin, go the extra mile and stay in a cool place. The Nhotel, that all about music should do the trick. It's like waking up in a recording studio. Amangiri Resort - Utah, USA Amangiri stands for peaceful mountain. Makes sense if you think about it, since the resort is in the middle of nowhere, tucked into a protected valley with sweeping views over colourful, stratified rock towards the Grand Staircase. Ubud Hanging Gardens - Payangan, Bali This is most definitely F's favorite. But can you blame him? Look at those infinity pools, the nature and... those infinity pools! Fairy Chimney Hotel - Goreme, Turkey Who can say they ever slept in a cave? Cavemen? This guesthouse with floor heating and a personal Hamam in each room, doesn't offer great luxury, it also has a great mountain view.
Yes, it's the time of the year when you hear the birds chirp, the bees buzz and you think: let's do some gardening! In our apartment in Düsseldorf we can't really do gardening since we basically don't have a garden, but we're determined to have an awesome green spot on the balcony. Booyah! If you also have your green zone on the balcony, you probably agree with us that not only your plants and flowers should look nice, so should the pots you plant them in. That's why we have this little easy DIY which will make you enjoy summer just a tiny bit more. Get some cheap pots at a do-it-yourself nearby. We got ourself some made of stone at Obi (big one was € 2,49, the smaller one € 1,79). Next thing: spray paint in a color you like. Since we sprayed our chairs at the dining table in pastel tones, we decided to take the same direction here. Tip: go for matte. It just looks way better. Now you can get yourself installed for the action. Cover a table with newspaper, shake your bottle of paint for about two minutes and get spraying! Be sure to keep the bottle at a twenty cm distance from your pot while you spray and just give the whole surface a thin layer. In thirty minutes your pot should be dry and ready for use. We planted some strawberry plants in our personalized pastel flowerpots. Can't wait for them to grow and eventually find their way to our tummy. Next to the strawberries we also planted lavender and an eucalyptus tree in non-personalized-but-nevertheless-pretty black pots. You should smell our place. De-lish! Enjoy gardening. JafJaf! Herrlich! Viel Spaß beim gärtnern. JafJaf!
Since a bit than over a year we've been following @z_captures on Instagram, liking almost every picture he posts since his photos are basically always awesome. At the end of last year he started with a new series, which is really a work of art. Zeren Badar is a Turkish self-taught photographer, currently based in New York. Influenced by Dadaism and Neo-Dadaism, he started his 'Accident'-series in which he combines cheap copies of famous paintings with food, objects and strong shadows. This creates a cool three dimensional form of art, brought together on a photograph and always tending to bring a big smile on your face. Zeren, also calling himself 'the penniless photographer', is actually still looking for a gallery to exhibit. So all you art lovers, help this talented guy out and share his story. We're fans and can't wait to once have our own pictures undergoing one of his accidents! JafJaf! JafJaf!
It's not easy for men to find stylish accessories. If you want to have something nice, you're mostly obliged to look between the more high-level brands. Let's face it: women have more luck in this area. Or at least, they had... Yes, gentlemen who are looking for something unique, weither they are sporty or business, will from now on find their arm candy at Gemini Bracelets. The Belgian premium brand, founded by twin brothers Marc and Rob Beenders, started out with a personal need for nice accessories for men. Since they were not happy with the available assortment, they just created their own label. Well done, guys. First in the Gemini-line are the bracelets with beads in different trend-oriented colors. From basic black, to spring green. We really like the tiger eye brown (that makes F's eyes pop) and the tricolor. Each one has its own feel and is perfectly combinable to bring that little extra. Recently the deluxe leather wristbands, that really give that more premium understatement look, joined the family. We probably don't have to tell you that we're big fans of Gemini. We both have a beads- and a leather bracelet and feel like we're rocking them. How do you like it? Stylish men who are interested or women who just found the perfect present for their love, can get their bracelets in shops around Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal (hopefully soon in Germany?) or online via gemini-bracelets.com. Big like! JafJaf! (more…)
While walking around in the Dusseldorf city center, we bumped into the shopping window of a really nice deco-shop, called Wohnplaner. Since we were quite actively looking for lights and a wardrobe, we decided to have a look inside. Happy we did. In our last apartment, we quite quickly agreed on all the nice things you could find at Ikea. Nothing wrong with that (we still have some Ikea-stuff), but this time we wanted to make it a bit more personal, a bit more us, with elements that you're not able to find in most of the nicely styled apartments of friends. When we were still living in Antwerp, we already bumped into some kind of buttons that you can attach on the wall and connect with a rope. The rope than functions as a connection to hang jackets and pictures. Cool idea but the price tag attached to it didn't make us buy it. Now, at Wohnplaner, it directly crossed our sight. They have similar buttons from HK Living in all kind of colors and sizes for a reasonable price. Now these little eye-catchers look dashing on our hallway, ready to take the jackets of guests. There are still a lot of treasures in the assortment of our newly discovered deco-store. The people there are very friendly and they even help you with interior advice. We'll definitely go back when we finally decide what kind of light to hang in the living room (it's a tough choice, no?). Already standing on our dining room, is a kind of futuristic vase, perfectly matching our more modern home. JafJaf! Was meinst ihr dazu? Passt perfekt in unser neues Heim. JafJaf!
Der Paketbote hat geklingelt... Meilenshopping! (more…)
(more…)
F speaking. Now that the move to Düsseldorf is more or less done, I took the opportunity to try my new KitchenAid Blender. I have read so much about all these green smoothies that I felt like doing it by myself, instead of paying a small fortune in a shop. And see: it is quick, easy and healthy. Exactly what I was looking for. It is the bitter substances in the raw green salads and vegetables wich you barely find in food today. Everything tastes sweet or salty, and when you think about it there is some truth in it, no? The greens stimulate your digestion and only with a good functioning digestive system, all the nutrients and viral substances can reach every cell of your body. But enough talking, let's see what you need to start the day green. :-) For a basic green smoothie you need the following: (2 glasses) spinach leaves or green salad leaves of a carrot bundle Broccoli Lemon Juice 1 Banana 1/2 Mango Water Now I just put everything in my KitchenAid Blender and fill it up with one glass of water. Then I close the blender with the cover and start it for about one minute. Finished. In general the fruits are only used to neutralize the bitterness. So you can vary with the fruits you want to use and the amount. Other possibilities are e.g. pineapple, pears or a sweeter sort of apple. For the greens you have a wide range of what you can use: rocket salad, chicory, radicchio, endives or broccoli, cauliflower and even more. As you can see, this is very easy and it is up to all of us to experiment and find our personal favorite green smoothie. There is no need to follow strict rules and measurements of how much of each ingredient is needed. Already on your way to get your blender from the basement? ;-) Have fun, and go green. JafJaf!
