JAF – Two Guys. Together since 2011.
It's a fact: Scotch & Soda made its debut on New York Fashion Week to reveal the Fall Winter 2016 collection. How they did it? With a big bang! It's no secret that we're big Scotch & Soda fans. From its more decadent styles, to its great denim washes and basics with cool details - we mostly prefer to have everything the Amsterdam based brand has to offer centralized in one place: our wardrobe. On Valentines Day Scotch & Soda revealed its Fall Winter 2016 collection. And they did so for the first time on the New York Fashion Week. If that's not exciting enough, they chose to do it in a more creative way than using the regular catwalk. The brand went for a spectacular show with intergalactic mood projections, models and live musicians up on the wall in shopping windows and most important: great merchandise. Be sure to watch the full show and put some Scotch & Soda must-haves on your wishlist for the upcoming Fall Winter season. I already know which cardigan will most definitely be mine...
Don't you just LOVE Carpool Karaoke from The Late Late Show with James Cordon? Well, you most definitely will after seeing the Sia episode. James Cordon is one of the most popular tv hosts right now. With his Carpool Karaoke he already cruised around the streets with a lot of celebrities that don't mind singing out loud. In the latest episode James spots Sia in Los Angeles and asks her to carpool to work with him as they sing some of the biggest songs she's performed and written, including "Chandelier" and "Diamonds". A-ma-zing. That girl can surely sing. Also seriously worth a watch: the carpool karaoke with Adele:
More and more people lately discover they have a food allergy. Does that mean you can't enjoy the pleasures of delicious dining anymore? Oh, hell no! Mid last year I've gone in a state of constant tiredness, pretty much always being nauseous, having headaches, even crawling on the floor from incredible stomach pains and ending up in the hospital. Turned out I have a lactose intolerance, an allergy for milk products. Which nowadays seems to be quite common, though still quite an obstacle for cooking and going on a restaurant. My god, milk is in everything: E-VE-RY-THING. Good thing we have really great friends that are open for some creativity in the kitchen. We decided that every one or two months we'll come together for a dinner that makes nobody feel bad. Also, it's the perfect occasion to drink wine together. Because: what's a dinner party without? :-) Meet: The perfect dairy-free dinner party. The party kicked-off at our place. What the hell should we cook for eight people? Well, we actually really quickly found some inspiring recipes in books and the WWW. Here's what made it to the very first dairy-free diner party menu (click on it to get to the recipe): Starter: Cucumber lasagne with a paprika cashew paste and avocado filling Main course: Codfish with creamy zucchini white wine sauce and pine nut rice Dessert: Sorbet ice in a bath of champagne with a hint of mint Nobody went home hungry, nor thirsty and the whole night was dairy-free. Just the way we like it. Enjoy!

If you put us in front of a sporty challenge, chances are high we won't say no. So when a few friends invited us to join their sprint team for the Reebok Spartan Race, we were all aboard! March this year, I received a text message with "You guys should join our team for the Reebok Spartan Race. It will be cool. You have to sign-up today!". Little did we know what we were getting into but we quickly signed up, assuming it's some kind of marathon. Not. A few weeks later we discovered the true nature of the Reebok Spartan Race, an obstacle race. Let's show you... Yeah. We were a bit excited as well after seeing that a few days before taking part of the race. It's probably no surprise when we say we were slightly nervous at the starting point. But hey, together with our great team we took on all the obstacles, ran our ass off and all covered in mud did we get to that burning finish line. Our team Les Spartans even finished as the fastest - and let's just say BEST - sprint team of the day with a time of 01:16:29. Let's do that again!
The world is changing, making us having to live more conscience. After G-Star with RAW for the Oceans, Adidas now also found a cool way to make this happen and created an amazing plastic shoe with Parley for the Oceans. Adidas celebrates its recently announced partnership with Parley for the Oceans in the unique surroundings of the United Nations headquarters and showcased an innovative footwear concept born from this collaboration. Parley for the Oceans is an organisation in which creators, thinkers and leaders come together to raise awareness about the state of the oceans and to collaborate on projects that can protect and conserve them. As founding member, adidas supports Parley for the Oceans in its education and communication efforts, and its comprehensive Ocean Plastic Program that intends to end plastic pollution of the oceans. The UNxParley event included an intimate press gathering where adidas Group Executive Board member responsible for Global Brands Eric Liedtke and Parley for the Oceans founder Cyrill Gutsch talked about the partnership and showcased a unique prototype product. adidas created a world first with a shoe upper made entirely of yarns and filaments reclaimed and recycled from ocean waste and illegal deep-sea gillnets. Parley partner organisation Sea Shepherd retrieved the nets after a 110-day expedition tracking an illegal poaching vessel, which culminated off the coast of West Africa. The concept shoe illustrates the direction adidas and Parley for the Oceans are taking, ahead of consumer-ready ocean plastic products being revealed later this year. "At Parley for the Oceans, we want to establish the oceans as a fundamental part of the debate around climate change. Our objective is to boost public awareness and to inspire new collaborations that can contribute to protect and preserve the oceans." said Cyrill Gutsch. "We are extremely proud that adidas is joining us in this mission and is putting its creative force behind this partnership to show that it is possible to turn ocean plastic into something cool". Eric Liedtke, who is also a passionate member of the Parley for the Oceans Steering Committee, said: "We are incredibly excited to join Parley for the Oceans as they bring the cause of the oceans to the attention of the United Nations. adidas has long been a leader in sustainability, but this partnership allows us to tap into new areas and create innovative materials and products for our athletes. We invite everyone to join us on this journey to clean up the oceans."
This week we had the pleasure to attend the Elisabeth musical, also known as the most successful German musical, in the Essener Colosseum. We were backstage, onstage, frontstage and are pleased to report to you right here, right now. The very talented cast of Elisabeth just returned from their tour in Shanghai where they performed the 'other' story of world known Swiss empress Sissi 40 times in, yes... German. 14 megatrucks packed with 664 costumes, 150 wigs, 125 pair of shoes and the full scenery brought the Elisabeth musical back to Germany where the piece will run in Essen till the 22nd of March. Later onwards they will move to München. Livekritik and the production behind the show invited us for a very pleasant evening with Elisabeth. At arrival we were welcomed with a backstage tour. What kind of team is behind the technic, the costumes and the scenery? How do the actors manage to have a costume-switch in less than 10 seconds (Elisabeth for example switches her costume 16 times)? All our questions got answered. And now the impressive world of musical hasn't got any secrets for us. Meanwhile #backstage, spinning around at #ElisabethMusical... Feb 2015 um 9:46 Uhr After the interesting tour, a spin onstage, a glass of champagne and snacks it was time to get to our seats. Lights! And action! The tones of 'Alle Tanzen Mit Dem Tot' kicked of a show that we both now give two well deserved thumbs up. We let ourselves get guided through the dark history of Elisabeth, performed by Roberta Valentini, and her secret flirt with death. During the show we mingled in the TweetUp via #ElisabethMusical and expressed our very positive impression on the musical. Cause, to be completely honest, there are some amazing voices in the cast, accompanied by the impressive orchestra guided by Paul Christ. Our favorite voice of the night is the one of Mark Seibert who performes Der Tot and sounds a lot like the very talented Belgian singer/songwriter Udo. J had goosebumps during the full song where grown-up Prince Rudolf sings with Der Tot. F's favorite song is 'Ich gehör nur mir', which he is now singing ever since. When the curtain fell, we were invited to have a chat with the main actors who talked about their nights in China and about being back in front of a German crowd. What a night. It probably doesn't come as a surprise if we tell you the Elisabeth musical is highly recommendable. The 28-people cast still plays in Essen till the 22nd of March and than moves to München. Check out the website for the full tourplan and tickets. Meanwhile we're already looking forward to our next night out. JafJaf!
German design studio Herr M has created Schiebepuzzle, a side table inspired by a children’s puzzle toy, that has a top that slides open to expose small storage areas. From the designers: "Inspired by a childrens toy we designed the side table “Schiebepuzzle”. The front doors can slide up and down and from side to side showing just a little bit of his content at a time, the rest is a seeking-game – for magazines and the minibar, for bottles, glasses, coasters or a deck of cards. Decent and lightly in impression this side table fits in lounges, lofts, living rooms and everywhere, where small things need a place." Available through Fräulein M. JafJaf!
Mango surprises with its so far best H.E. by Mango November Men's Lookbook Mango has already released a few cookbooks earlier this year including their A/W14 Menswear lookbook and their A/W14 urban suiting collection. Both have been played quite safe on terms of style and looks. This november lookbook however is defintely one of the most fashion forward collections Mango has released so far. We are beyond impressed. For us, Mango has always been very traditional, mainstream and quite Spanish inspired in their H.E. by Mango collection. Well, this lookbook is different. It's high fashion but still not over the top. All styles shown in the lookbook are individually styled and brought together in remarkable outfits. We are really surprised and welcome this new look of the H.E. collection. Everything is clean cut, futuristic and minimalistic. The mix of tailoring with sports influenced pieces follows the actual fashion trend and is executed nicely. For us a ready to wear and feel good collection. Difficult to choose a favourite. What's yours? JafJaf!
500 meets Crossover. The Fiat 500X. On the Paris Motor Show Fiat presented the next '500' family member. The Fiat 500 gets an X resulting in a compact crossover that marks the evolution of the brand and technology through the development in its DNA. It is bigger, more powerful and ready for action Since we are already fans of the MINI Countryman driving it from time to time with DriveNow, there is now the italian answer to the compact city crossover. And we do like it a lot. A car with character, the new crossover explores a brand-new dimension of being 500, where a mature, elegant, all-Italian style "clothes" - like haute couture - the substance of a car that is comfortable, high-performance and always in touch with the world: that's the X side of beauty, and that's the soul of the Fiat 500X. Fiat has created an exclusive, top of the range, limited edition of the model - the Fiat 500X "Opening Edition" - to guarantee the first 2000 lucky customers the chance to drive the exciting new crossover from the 500 family. Two exteriors - like the two souls of the new 500X: one more "urban" in Art Grey, the other in tri-coat red, perfect for recreational use. To find out more about the exclusive Fiat 500X "Opening Edition", users can visit www.500X.fiat500.com to discover what makes the new Fiat crossover truly one of a kind, using a navigation system which allows you to explore the car from any angle. On the website you can also reserve your limited edition Fiat 500X through your trusted dealership and be one of the first 2000 to drive one. The new Fiat 500X is set to arrive in dealerships from early 2015, and like any cult item, initially it may be tricky to meet demand. We are now already waiting for a first test drive. JafJaf!
DriveNow let’s you shop until you drop at the Designer Outlet! As you already know, we’re big fans of DriveNow. Recently, the car sharing agency launched an interesting collaboration with the McArthurGlen Designer Outlet in Roermond, the Netherlands. How does it work? Easy! Just hop in a DriveNow MINI or BMW at choice and book the partner offer via the DriveNow menu in the car. Depending on how many people you are, the costs vary from 50€ for one person up to 65€ for four people. Next to that, every person receives a 15€ voucher at the information desk when arrived in the Outlet Center. That voucher can, by the way, be spent in every store in the center and comes without a minimum to be spend. So… you actually pay 5 € for the six hour rent, including 140 free kilometers when you go on a shopping tour with a group of four. There’s definitely not a cheaper and more comfortable way to get to your designer destination. We certainly liked the offer and tried it ourselves last Sunday afternoon. We booked a MINI Countryman in Dusseldorf, started off with a sporty Sunday BodyJam work-out at the gym and continued our trip further to Roermond. Arrived at the Designer Outlet, we picked up our voucher cards and were ready to attack! From all major sports brands like adidas, Nike, Puma and Reebok, to labels like Boss, Strellson, Diesel, Ralph Lauren, Denham. You name it, you’ll find it. Next to that, the center has loads of places to have a coffee or eat something when you just feel like having a little break. <a href="http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/141001_DriveNow_McArthurGlen_designer_outlet_roermond_eight acheter viagra quebec.jpg"> Our catch of the Sunday? A pair of cool adidas sneakers for F and a Reebok cross-fit training pants for J. All in the trunk and back to Dusseldorf! J's 25th life year brings a new premium friend along: a lovely Drykorn suit. Ah, birthdays. The time to gather all your beloved friends and family to talk about the past year, have a drink, a dance, a bite, a selfie with everyone. The perfect moment to have a good time all together. You have to just love it. Next to that, birthdays are also the time of presents... With my 25th birthday last week, I received quite some gift cards and shopping money. Logically it didn't take me too long to go out and spend it. And if I may say: it's been spent wisely. Already for a long period I've been in need of a second complete suit. Most of the time you can easily combine a good qualitative jeans with a nice blazer for a casual office look, but sometimes you'd just like it to be a little more dressed. So, with freshly received cash money in the hand, F and I went to look for a new full costume at Drykorn (yes, Made For Beautiful People). After trying on quite some cool stuff, we decided to go for this dark blue suit with a cool pattern all over the blazer and pants that clearly makes it stand out. By the way: it not only looks good, it also feels soft. Prrrrr. So, fashion police, what are your thoughts? Can I walk into your office? JafJaf!

Angkor Wat (Cambodia) Angkor Wat was first a Hindu, then subsequently a Buddhist, temple complex in Cambodia and the largest religious monument in the world. The temple was built by the Khmer King Suryavarman II in the early 12th century in Yasodharapura, the capital of the Khmer Empire, as his state temple and eventual mausoleum. Breaking from the Shaivism tradition of previous kings, Angkor Wat was instead dedicated to Vishnu. As the best-preserved temple at the site, it is the only one to have remained a significant religious center since its foundation. The temple is at the top of the high classical style of Khmer architecture which got major influence from Kalinga architectural style. It has become a symbol of Cambodia, appearing on its national flag, and it is the country’s prime attraction for visitors. 9. Easter Island Easter Island (Rapa Nui: Rapa Nui, Spanish: Isla de Pascua) is a Polynesian island in the southeastern Pacific Ocean, at the southeastern most point of the Polynesian Triangle.Easter Island is famous for its 887 extant monumental statues, called moai, created by the early Rapa Nui people. In 1995, UNESCO named Easter Island a World Heritage Site, with much of the island protected within Rapa Nui National Park.Polynesian people settled on Easter Island in the first millennium AD, and created a thriving culture, as evidenced by the moai and other artifacts. However, human activity, the introduction of the Polynesian rat and overpopulation led to gradual deforestation and extinction of natural resources, which caused the demise of the Rapa Nui civilization. 8. Cappadocia Cappadocia also Capadocia; Turkish: Kapadokya, from Greek: Kappadokía, from Ancient Greek: from Old Persian: Katpatuka is a historical region in Central Anatolia, largely in Nevshehir Province, in Turkey. In the time of Herodotus, the Cappadocians were reported as occupying the whole region from Mount Taurus to the vicinity of the Euxine (Black Sea). Cappadocia, in this sense, was bounded in the south by the chain of the Taurus Mountains that separate it from Cilicia, to the east by the upper Euphrates and the Armenian Highland, to the north by Pontus, and to the west by Lycaonia and eastern Galatia. The name was traditionally used in Christian sources throughout history and is still widely used as an international tourism concept to define a region of exceptional natural wonders, in particular characterized by fairy chimneys and a unique historical and cultural heritage. 7. The Collosseum The Colosseum or Coliseum, also known as the Flavian Amphitheatre (Latin: Amphitheatrum Flavium; Italian: Anfiteatro Flavio or Colosseo) is an elliptical amphitheatre in the centre of the city of Rome, Italy.Built of concrete and stone, it was the largest amphitheatre of the Roman Empire, and is considered one of the greatest works of Roman architecture and engineering. It is the largest amphitheatre in the world. Construction began under the emperor Vespasian in 70 AD, and was completed in 80 AD under his successor and heir Titus. The Colosseum could hold, it is estimated, between 50,000 and 80,000 spectators, and was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. The building ceased to be used for entertainment in the early medieval era. It was later reused for such purposes as housing, workshops, quarters for a religious order, a fortress, a quarry, and a Christian shrine. 6. The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (Tanzania) The Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) is a conservation area and a UNESCO World Heritage Site located 180 km (110 mi) west of Arusha in the Crater Highlands area of Tanzania. Ngorongoro Crater, a large volcanic caldera within the area, is recognized by one private organization as one of the Seven Natural Wonders of Africa. 5. Norwegian Fjords This list of Norwegian fjords shows many of the fjords in Norway. In total, there are about 1,190 fjords in Norway and the Svalbard islands. The sortable list includes the lengths and locations of those fjords. 4. Grand Canyon The Grand Canyon is a steep-sided canyon carved by the Colorado River in the United States in the state of Arizona. It is contained within and managed by Grand Canyon National Park, the Hualapai Tribal Nation, and the Havasupai Tribe. The Grand Canyon is 277 miles (446 km) long, up to 18 miles (29 km) wide and attains a depth of over a mile (6,000 feet or 1,800 meters). Nearly two billion years of Earth’s geological history have been exposed as the Colorado River and its tributaries cut their channels through layer after layer of rock while the Colorado Plateau was uplifted. 3. The Dead Sea The Dead Sea, “Sea of Salt”, also Hebrew: “The Sea of Death” is a salt lake bordering Jordan to the east and Israel to the west. It is 9.6 times as salty as the ocean. This salinity makes for a harsh environment in which animals cannot flourish, hence its name. The Dead Sea is 50 kilometres (31 mi) long and 15 kilometres (9 mi) wide at its widest point. It lies in the Jordan Rift Valley, and its main tributary is the Jordan River. The Dead Sea has attracted visitors from around the Mediterranean basin for thousands of years. Biblically, it was a place of refuge for King David. The seawater has a density of 1.240 kg/L, which makes swimming similar to floating. 2. Niagara Falls Niagara Falls is the collective name for three waterfalls that straddle the international border between Canada and the United States; more specifically, between the province of Ontario and the state of New York. They form the southern end of the Niagara Gorge. From largest to smallest, the three waterfalls are the Horseshoe Falls, the American Falls and the Bridal Veil Falls. The Horseshoe Falls lie mostly on the Canadian side and the American Falls entirely on the American side, separated by Goat Island. 1. The Egyptian Pyramids The Egyptian pyramids are ancient pyramid-shaped masonry structures located in Egypt. There are 138 pyramids discovered in Egypt as of 2008. Most were built as tombs for the country’s Pharaohs and their consorts during the Old and Middle Kingdom periods. The estimate of the number of workers to build the pyramids range from a few thousand, twenty thousand, and up to 100,000. The most famous Egyptian pyramids are those found at Giza, on the outskirts of Cairo. Several of the Giza pyramids are counted among the largest structures ever built. The Pyramid of Khufu at Giza is the largest Egyptian pyramid. It is the only one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World still in existence.

Thinking about redecorating your wall? Well, here we have a great creative DIY that lets you create your individual wall art for little money and not more than 4 tiny wholes in your wall. All you need is an older wooden picture frame, chicken wire, white paint spray and colorful paper of your choice. Having all materials and tools ready it will take you not more than a couple of hours to create your personalized wall art. The first step is to staple the chicken wire onto the back of your frame with a staple gun. Take care to get rid of all the sharp edges with a wire cutter. Having finished the construction start spraying the frame with paint until it is evenly white and let it dry. Before attaching it to the wall measure and mark where the screw wholes should be and use a drill bit to get thorugh your painted frame. Then install it to the wall using a spacer to keep some distance. Finally cut the paper into colorful pieces, roll them up and stuff them into the chicken wire openings. Follow your own taste and creativity to create various waves of colors, use it to say 'Happy Birthday' or just 'Love you honey' on Valentine's Day. The result from far appears to be done with paint but taking a closer look it gets obvious that this work is just done with paper and wire. JafJaf!
We're gonna go back in time! Did you know that J has a history as a popstar? Back in 2010, when he was working as a TV-host for a music channel, the question popped-up to release an own single. J, who previously participated in the Belgian version of X-Factor didn't hesitate a minute and dove into a music studio in The Netherlands, where he worked with the incredibly talented Rocketeers. A first single for MINNO was born: Dreaming. Hey, don't blame the boy for kissing a girl. He kinda liked it, the taste of her cherry chopstick. And what happens in the UK (where the videoclip was shot), gets posted on the net. Half a year later, J started working with singer songwriter Gene Thomas to create a self written feel-good summer song. MINNO had a second swinging baby: Dance with Me. The videoclip that was recorded in Amsterdam. J might be swinging in the spotlight but you can barely miss out on hottie F, shaking his booty. After hearing a demo of the first MINNO song, Dreaming, Italian producer/DJ Pops & Booms offered his mixing talent to create great remixes of both songs. Check them out and get into the groove! MINNO - Dance With Me (Pops & Booms Remix) MINNO - Dreaming (Pops & Booms Remix) The story continues... Beginning of 2014, J headed to Italy to work on some new tracks. Further away from the typical pop as before and under another artist name. History as a popstar? Step into the future. Are you curious to have a listen? JafJaf!
There’s a new trend in the office: desk safari! We hope your boss has a sense of humor or likes animals as much as his beloved co-workers. Why? The new hype hitting the office takes you on a trip to the jungle. Who’s the fancy poodle of the team? Who’s the lazy hippo? For once the characters of your colleagues can openly come out while you all have a laugh about it. Choose an animal, put a picture of it without the head fullscreen on your desktop and the party can begin. Let your office buddy pose behind your screen with only his/her head popping up. Or be a little bit nasty and take your snap sneaky without your colleague having a clue. 😉 <img class="alignnone size-large wp-image-895" src="http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-1024x620 viagra prix canada.jpg" alt="JAF goes desk safari" width="620" height="375" srcset="http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-1024x620.jpg 1024w, http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-300x181.jpg 300w, http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-660x400.jpg 660w, http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-400x242.jpg 400w, http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin-270x164.jpg 270w, http://jaftime.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/08/140824_jaf_goes_desksafari_pinguin.jpg 1200w" sizes="(max-width: 620px) 100vw, 620px" /> Curious how good the creativity of your team is while jumping on the desk safari hype. Here's J. A few weeks ago, Mission 20-FIT started with the goal to get in top shape for my 25th birthday. With the right music for running via Fitradio and motivation to hit the gym with Bodyjam, a lot of progress has already been made. Let's take it to the next level! Okay, the first three weeks were a good way to get warmed-up by saying no to sweets, crisps, alcohol and... bread. Gently onwards I started going back to the gym to do cardio and my running shoes also saw daylight again. It's great to have a goal (mine: to be in my best shape on September 21st) but you have to stay realistic and build-up wisely. Last week, I decided to take the next step, based on the cool Six-pack program of the German Men's Health magazine. Six of their employees took on the challenge to train eight weeks long to get their six-pack pumped. Really motivating to see how they managed. And so I started this week by also doing cardio every day, every damn day. But you know what? It's not that bad, on the contrary. For me the trick is to plan a routine in the mornings by preparing my sports outfit in the evening and putting my alarm half an hour earlier. It's just a matter of getting up, get dressed, drink a cup of coffee and wake-up while doing a half an hour morning run. Trust me: you feel way more active during the day. By doing so, I managed to get faster every day without it taking me to my ultimate limit. On July 28th, it took me for example 30:42 for 6,22km. That's an average of 4min 56sec per kilometer. Compare that to my run of August 15th where I had an average of 4min 16sec for basically the same distance. That's 40 seconds per kilometer faster in just three weeks time. What I'm going to add to my running, cardio at the gym and healthy eating/drinking is the one thing I don't like so much: strength training. Wish me good luck! JafJaf!
The next crazy thing Dubai is going to build: a temperature-controlled city, known as the 'Mall of the World'. Dubai has always had a thing for showing off. They have Bugatti police cars, the world's tallest buildings and an underwater hotel. But now, they are going to build the world's first integrated temperature-controlled city and an indoor theme park, covered by a retractable glass dome that opens during winter months. It will be located in the Al Sufouh district, close to the water front. If everything goes as planned, the shopping and entertainment complex will include a Broadway-style theater district; a pedestrian walkway modeled on Barcelona’s Las Ramblas; a 6.9-km retail network of roads, based on London’s Oxford Street; 20,000 hotel rooms; underground parking; an indoor family theme park and a “wellness district” for medical tourists. We call that a clear understatement. JafJaf!
One of the many things Germans are good at: delicious selfmade cake and pastries. Esspecially in the northern part the so called 'Franzbrötchen', comparable with swedish cinnamon rolls, are a yummy specialty. Back from Berlin we needed to try our very own receipe. YumYum. This is what you need for about 12 pieces: For the baking sheet: baking paper Yeast dough: 250 ml milk 70 g butter 500 g of wheat flour 1 pack. Dry Yeast 70 g sugar 2 tsp vanilla sugar 1 egg (size M) a touch of salt Filling: 100 g soft butter 100 g sugar 3 tsp. cinnamon To glaze: about 2 tablespoons of milk And here is your manual: 1.Preparing: Heat the milk in a small saucepan and melt the butter in it. 2. Yeast dough: Fill the flour and yeast in a mixing bowl. Then add all other ingredients including the warm milk-butter mixture and mix everything with a mixer (dough hook). Start shortly to mix on the lowest level, then process at the highest level in about 5 min until the dough is smooth. Cover the dough and let it rise in a warm place until it has grown visibly. (around 30 min) 3. Preheat the oven. Top / bottom heat: about 180 ° C Hot air: about 160 ° C 4. Filling: Blend the butter, sugar and cinnamon with a mixer (stirring rods). Knead the dough on a lightly floured work surface and roll it out to a rectangle (about 70 x 25 cm). Afterwards spread out the cinanamon filling evenly and roll everything up from the longer side. Finally cut the role in about 12 equal trapeze-shaped cuts. Now place the cuts with the elongated side down on the baking sheet and press with a wooden spoon handle from the top to the narrow edge.. Let the rolls stay for another 10 min. 5. Sprinkle the buns with milk and then bake them. Oven inset: center Baking time: about 20 min. When finished, let the 'Franzbrötchen' cool down on a wire rack or serve them warm. Enjoy your freshly, selfmade 'Franzbrötchen'. JafJaf!
Hola! Already three days far in my Mission 20-FIT and still on track! Proud already? It's actually really easy to work on your fitness by just going for a run while waking up in the morning or directly after work. The only thing: without the right music for running it can be such a bore... That's why I'm happy to have discovered this great music app, called Fitradio. Supporting Android, iPhone and Blackberry, it provides you daily updated music mixes in different genres. My personal favorite mixes are the TOP-40- and Electro House mixes, both with a constant energetic 128 BPM. Try it out and get your groove on together with me. J from JafJaf!

J here. I've made a sporty decision that I might regret at first but most definitely will be very grateful for later... With my 25th birthday coming up in September, it's time to make some things happen. It's time to gain some volume around my arms, to shape-up and to get that six-pack that has nothing to do with German or Belgian beer. Not by starving myself out with diets, but by doing lots of (fun) sports and by keeping myself on a healthy food plan. Bye bye, lazy evenings, crisps, bread, alcohol,... Hello 20-fit? The next two months I will be reporting my progress and share my tips and tricks into making it happen. Lets hope I can make you guys proud of me. JafJaf!
We’ll have to confirm that the Warlblers from Glee do exist in real life. They study and sing a capella at Oxford University, calling themselves <a title="Go to the website of Out of the Blue male a capella group." href="http://www.ootb.org viagra 100 mg comprim.uk" target="_blank">Out of the Blue. The boys recorded a Shakira medley and released the single with a sassy video for charity. All profits go to the Helen and Douglas House, hospice care for terminally ill children and young adults. Hips don’t lie and these guys sure know how to shake them! JafJaf!
Hey Summer lovers out there! If you're not yet in the mood for the hot temperatures from upcoming long weekend, the new Scotch & Soda Summer campaign, shot by Dutch photographer Philippe Vogelenzang, will definetly get you there. Our favourite piece: the striped raglan sweater with flower printed sleeves. Also nice to see in the shooting is Scandinavion top-50 male model Mikkel Jensen wearing the collection. Yes, it's the time of the year when you hear the birds chirp, the bees buzz and you think: let's do some gardening! In our apartment in Düsseldorf we can't really do gardening since we basically don't have a garden, but we're determined to have an awesome green spot on the balcony. Booyah! If you also have your green zone on the balcony, you probably agree with us that not only your plants and flowers should look nice, so should the pots you plant them in. That's why we have this little easy DIY which will make you enjoy summer just a tiny bit more. Get some cheap pots at a do-it-yourself nearby. We got ourself some made of stone at Obi (big one was € 2,49, the smaller one € 1,79). Next thing: spray paint in a color you like. Since we sprayed our chairs at the dining table in pastel tones, we decided to take the same direction here. Tip: go for matte. It just looks way better. Now you can get yourself installed for the action. Cover a table with newspaper, shake your bottle of paint for about two minutes and get spraying! Be sure to keep the bottle at a twenty cm distance from your pot while you spray and just give the whole surface a thin layer. In thirty minutes your pot should be dry and ready for use. We planted some strawberry plants in our personalized pastel flowerpots. Can't wait for them to grow and eventually find their way to our tummy. Next to the strawberries we also planted lavender and an eucalyptus tree in non-personalized-but-nevertheless-pretty black pots. You should smell our place. De-lish! Enjoy gardening. JafJaf! Herrlich! Viel Spaß beim gärtnern. JafJaf!
JAF goes Sushi – Our sushi test for Dusseldorf has now oficially started. Part 1: Okinii LunchIn for sushi? Yeah, same here. Last week we decided to hook up with some friends and to try the all-you-can-eat à la (ipad) carte lunch at Okinii. The concept of the sushi chain is actually really easy. Per person you can order every round up to five to eight dishes via your personal iPad. That means that when you’re with four, you can order up to 32 different dishes in one round. Just so you know: you have an unlimited amount of rounds in your two and a half hours of sushi. But be aware: if you order something that you don’t eat, you will have to pay extra for it. You can order quite a lot from the electronic menu. Sushi, soups, salads, fingerfood, grillspecialities, teppan yaki,… Yum! In the evening there’s an even wider range to choose from than during lunchtime. Little tip: leave a bit of space in your tummy for desert. After the sushi you can still choose three scoops of ice of sesam, mango, green tea or lime. Must-try! The athmosphere is loungy and decorations are quite tastefull. Only point of criticism: when it’s full (which it mostly is), it’s not the most silent place. Our highlights on the menu:– The iPad menu itself. Cool concept.– Tuna Gunkan.– Giyoza, baked dumpling with chicken.– Chuka Ika Sansai, spicy seaweed salad.– Veggie Roll with avocado and sesam. Prices:Lunch: week: 13,90€ // weekend: 15,90€Dinner: 25,90€ Big recommendation for everyone who likes good quality food for a super sushi price. Do reserve a few days in advance. Otherwise you can forget about getting a table. Adress: Immermannstraße 35, Dusseldorf. JafJaf! ____________________ JAF goes Sushi – Unser Sushi Test für Düsseldorf startet jetzt. It's not easy for men to find stylish accessories. If you want to have something nice, you're mostly obliged to look between the more high-level brands. Let's face it: women have more luck in this area. Or at least, they had... Yes, gentlemen who are looking for something unique, weither they are sporty or business, will from now on find their arm candy at Gemini Bracelets. The Belgian premium brand, founded by twin brothers Marc and Rob Beenders, started out with a personal need for nice accessories for men. Since they were not happy with the available assortment, they just created their own label. Well done, guys. First in the Gemini-line are the bracelets with beads in different trend-oriented colors. From basic black, to spring green. We really like the tiger eye brown (that makes F's eyes pop) and the tricolor. Each one has its own feel and is perfectly combinable to bring that little extra. Recently the deluxe leather wristbands, that really give that more premium understatement look, joined the family. We probably don't have to tell you that we're big fans of Gemini. We both have a beads- and a leather bracelet and feel like we're rocking them. How do you like it? Stylish men who are interested or women who just found the perfect present for their love, can get their bracelets in shops around Belgium, the Netherlands and Portugal (hopefully soon in Germany?) or online via gemini-bracelets.com. Big like! JafJaf! The 8th of May 2011? We remember that beautiful day as it was yesterday. It was the start of J and F, JAF. Three years later, we wanted to celebrate our anniversary with a nice dinner. Place to be was Nooij (to pronounce as the German worth 'neu'), from owner Nene Nooij. Nene calls himself a European with his Dutch, German and Spanish background. He opened his Scandinavian/sixties-designed restaurant in Düsseldorf, Flingern, where he brings a healthy international kitchen. Yummy! Since it's asparagus season and we absolutely love this delicious vegetable, we decided to go for an asparagus creme soup as a starter. De-li-ci-ous! Later onwards the food party continued with an asparagus/walnut pie for J and a strawberry/asparagus/tuna salad for F. You can be very sure: our plates were quickly empty. When browsing through the menu, we also took a quick look at the breakfast specials. Here you can clearly see the different international influences that Nooij has. When ordering a Dutch breakfast for example, you get vanilla custard, sprinkles, gouda and bread with peanut butter. When going for the Spanish treat, you can be sure of getting deliciously baked chorizo, manchego and fried eggs . If we can get up early enough, we'll definitely try this out on Sunday morning. Very recommendable restaurant! JafJaf!
While walking around in the Dusseldorf city center, we bumped into the shopping window of a really nice deco-shop, called Wohnplaner. Since we were quite actively looking for lights and a wardrobe, we decided to have a look inside. Happy we did. In our last apartment, we quite quickly agreed on all the nice things you could find at Ikea. Nothing wrong with that (we still have some Ikea-stuff), but this time we wanted to make it a bit more personal, a bit more us, with elements that you're not able to find in most of the nicely styled apartments of friends. When we were still living in Antwerp, we already bumped into some kind of buttons that you can attach on the wall and connect with a rope. The rope than functions as a connection to hang jackets and pictures. Cool idea but the price tag attached to it didn't make us buy it. Now, at Wohnplaner, it directly crossed our sight. They have similar buttons from HK Living in all kind of colors and sizes for a reasonable price. Now these little eye-catchers look dashing on our hallway, ready to take the jackets of guests. There are still a lot of treasures in the assortment of our newly discovered deco-store. The people there are very friendly and they even help you with interior advice. We'll definitely go back when we finally decide what kind of light to hang in the living room (it's a tough choice, no?). Already standing on our dining room, is a kind of futuristic vase, perfectly matching our more modern home. JafJaf! Was meinst ihr dazu? Passt perfekt in unser neues Heim. JafJaf!
Some weeks ago we found an offer from DriveNow, the carsharing service from BMW and MINI, where they lowered the subscription fee from 29.95€ to 4.99€. You can find their cars in Dusseldorf, Cologne, Berlin, Hamburg, Munich and San Francisco. So we decided to try it out. After your online subscription you receive a confirmation e-mail which asks you to stop by at a Sixt servicepoint with your ID, drivers licence and your bank-/creditcard. There you receive your DriveNow-ID that will get you on the road. Still quickly download the DriveNow App for Android or iOS and you are good to go! Last Sunday, we enjoyed the lovely sun in Dusseldorf at the Fischmarkt and since we had to get home in time (and just absolutely were in a Mini-mood), we tried out the DriveNow App. And look at that: at only 400m distance a ride was waiting for us. Quickly reserve the car for 15min and follow the integrated navigation towards the vehicle. When you arrive at the car, the procedure is quite easy: There's a scanner at the windshield that shows the availability of the vehicle (red light: booked, yellow light: reserved and -bingbing- green: this car is available). Now hold your DriveNow-ID infront of the scanner, wait for the green light to turn into a yellow hourglass and -click- the car unlocks. When you enter the car, you get a short welcome message that asks you for your personal PIN and then: DriveNow. :-) From there onwards we cruised through Dusseldorf to get to our apartment. The MINI was very new, clean and even the 197cm tall F didn't have troubles to fit in the car. When we would've been with more than two, we do would've have to opt for a BMW because someone extra wouldn't have fit on the backseat. What was really good, was the build-in navigation that guided us through the city. When you arrive at your destination, you just park the car at a free spot, end your booking in the menu and scan your DriveNow-ID one last time at the scanner at the windshield till the light turns green. Your Mini is locked and ready for its next driver. Long story short: We're very positive about the DriveNow service. It does have a pricetag, but therefore you get a nice range of the MINI and BMW 1 vehicles to choose from. With more than 200 cars in Dusseldorf, the chance to get a ride is quite high and, let's face it, you don't have any responsabilities. Get in, drive, get out. Big recommendation! JafJaf!
(more…)
This weekend, we were able to welcome our very first visitors in the brand new JAF Düsseldorf apartment. The J-family came over from Belgium to take a preview look at the new crib, which they of course more than approved. As a nice Sunday activity, we decided to explore Düsseldorf with the family, including happy four-footed Luna. On this little excursion we managed to see some nice highlights of the city on a short period of time. Perfect for an afternoon walk. Our escapade started at the central station (Hauptbahnhof), where we took tram 709 in direction of Theodor-Heuss-Platz, till we got off at Stadttor. For little Luna this was directly quite the experience since it was her first time on public transportation. Oh, that funny dog. :-) When arriving at Stadttor we went in direction of the trendy media harbor. This hip area at the Rhein has on the one side the famous Ghery houses, constructed by American-Canadian architect Frank Ghery, and on the other side the remarkable currywurst stand where you can get currywurst with real gold leafs. Try it. Since silver is more our kind of color, we decided to walk further and to later onwards opt for an ice-cream. While walking along the riverside, headed towards the old city center (and our beloved ice-cream), we passed the high in the sky tv-tower and the parliament of NRW. After a 30 minute walk, we arrived at the Burgplatz. These stairs, that are connecting the waterside with the old city center, are as specially popular during the summertime for having a drink in a mixed crowd. The atmosphere is very relaxed and it's actually also a great spot for a nice photo moment. Snap! A few streets further we enjoyed the most supercalifragilisticexpialidocious yummy famous Italian ice-cream ever at Eisbar Pia. A must-visit on warm days. But be prepared... to stand in the cue. FYI: 1 scoop = € 0,80. On the walk back to our starting point, we recommend a stop at the colorful Toykio. This cafe not only serves great coffee, it also fulfills the appetite of toy- and art lovers. Shopaholics can still do some window-shopping at the Schadowstraße and the Königsallee, since all shops are closed on Sundays. Thank god we were there on a Kaufsontag, which basically means the shops were open. Luna.was.thrilled. To make our long story short: we had a great afternoon and so had our guests. For those who're planning a trip to Düsseldorf, feel free to click on the map below where we've marked our highlights of the day. Or just leave us a message on firstname.lastname@example.org. JafJaf!
